The horizontal display interval of the full flight images depends on the length of the flight. Both nadir and zenith data may be imaged separately or together, with a
black trace appearing at the aircraft altitude. Only one color scale is used for the water vapor images, and only one color scale is used for the aerosol images. Aerosol data are reported as Atmospheric Scattering Ratios on a logarithmic scale. Water Vapor data are reported as mixing
ratios (g/kg) on a logarithmic scale.
Resolution of AFWEX LASE Image data are:
Vertical averaging interval
Aerosol 60 meters
Water Vapor
Nadir 330 meters
Zenith 990 meters
Vertical display interval for averaged data
Aerosol 60 meters
Water Vapor 30 meters
Horizontal averaging interval
Aerosol
Nadir 9.0 seconds, or approximately 2.1 kilometers
Zenith 9.0 seconds, or approximately 2.1 kilometers
Water Vapor (except Flight 11)
Nadir 60.0 seconds, or approximately 14 kilometers
Zenith 300.0 seconds, or approximately 70 kilometers
Note: Flight 11 Water vapor are averaged 1200 seconds, or approximately 280 kilometers
Horizontal display interval for averaged data other than full flight images
Aerosol 9.0 seconds or approximately 2.1 kilometers
Water Vapor 9.0 seconds or approximately 2.1 kilometers
Times on the images are Universal Time (UT).
