Teachers Share their Classroom Management Suggestions

Note from S'COOL director: These ideas are from teachers who have more than 100 observations in the S'COOL database, which I took as an indication that they have found a good solution to the classroom management problem. The solutions for each grade level are somewhat similar, so you may want to look at more than just your grade.

Some other observations from the S'COOL director:
Many of these teachers suggest sending students in small teams each day to do the observation. This is probably obvious to a teacher, but there may be students you don't want to send out unsupervised. Making S'COOL observations can be a reward for good behavior or restricted to those who earn it in some way. I have encountered one teacher who begins the year with a unit on clouds. His kids (5th grade) must then pass a test on the observation process and content before they can actually do the observation. Those who pass the first time get to start the observations, and other students are motivated to continue studying until they too can pass the test and observe.

Have you found another good way to implement S'COOL? Send us a note and we'll post it here to share with other teachers.
