S'COOL E-note October, 2007
Greetings from the S'COOL Team! Welcome to Issue #20 of the S'COOL E-note.
This month's E-note includes:
- Daylight Saving Time Ends
- S'COOL website "Feature of the Month"
- Lesson Plan Feature
- Data Analysis
- Email address changes
- S'COOL will be at NSTA regionals
- Polar-Palooza
- Daylight Saving Time Ends
For many of us, Daylight Saving Time will be ending soon (November 4 for US) and for others DST will begin.
Keep in mind, when requesting an overpass schedule, the "Daylight Saving Time in Effect for Period Selected" box is only used for observation dates during DST. When observing during standard time this box is not used.
- S'COOL website "Feature of the Month"
Are you required to align your S'COOL activities with a state/country standard of learning? Please take a few minutes to visit Education Standards related to S'COOL. We are still working toward our project of identifying state (or country) education standards addressed by implementing the S'COOL program and/or materials. When you get to that part of your curriculum, please remember to send us a quick note. Thanks!
Please send:
- name of state/country
- state standard number/letter/or other identifier
- brief description of the standard
- if applicable, the specific part of the S'COOL experience meeting that standard
- Lesson Plan Feature
To provide practice in basic graphing of S'COOL observation data, you may want to use this month's featured lesson, "Cloud Observation and Graphing" submitted by Consuelo B. Muhammad, Newport News, VA. In this lesson, students will graph the percent of cloud cover and three other observed conditions (Surface Temperature - C, Barometric Pressure - in. of Mercury, and Relative Humidity - %).
- Data Analysis
As mentioned in the August, 2007 E-note, the updated data analysis file has been posted. We hope this will be a useful tool. The S'COOL team is very interested in the results of any study that you perform with these data. Please share your ideas and results with us!
- Email address changes
Our email address is changing. Please add scool@lists.nasa.gov to your address book. The old address scool@larc.nasa.gov will continue to work for a while. Please don't forget to send us an email when you change email addresses.
