S'COOL E-note May, 2007
Greetings from the S'COOL Team! Welcome to Issue #15 of the S'COOL E-note.
This month's E-note includes:
- S'COOL website "Feature of the Month"
- Submitting more than one observation within a 15-minute period
- Cloud Photo of the Month
- S'COOL Ground to Satellite Footprint Comparison
- S'COOL website "Feature of the Month"
Many participants have commented on the difficulties they have in determining cloud height. Since there are no points of reference in the sky, this is difficult for everyone. You may find the information on the Observing Cloud Height page to be helpful. The information on this page along with Lin's Tips should help. There is additional information on the Cloud Identification Tips page.
- Submitting more than one observation within a 15-minute period
We have noticed that some of our observers/participants are entering two or more observations within just a few minutes of each other. If several students are observing at one time, or at times very close together (less than 15 minutes), we would ask that these observations be combined into one observation. The observations tend to be more accurate when they are the combined agreement of a group, not just one student. If observing as a group is not an option, we ask that the students compare what has been recorded on their report form with that of other students and only report one set of information for any given 15-minute period.
Sometimes, the satellites themselves, Terra and Aqua, will pass a location within moments of each other. When this happens, please only submit your observation for one satellite. A single observation will be matched to both satellites as long as it is within +/- 15 minutes of the satellite passing.
- Cloud Photo of the Month
The photo we selected for the Cloud Photo Of the Month for March was sent in by Peru Central School. Your photo could be the feature next month. Just remember, send only 1 photo each month and you must include a caption. We want the details!!
- S'COOL Ground to Satellite Footprint Comparison
Have you noticed the new "S'COOL Ground to Satellite Footprint Comparison" emails? We are interested in your thoughts about the new process. Do you think the match is better than it was with the previous method? If you experience any problems with the matching data, please let us know.
