S'COOL E-note June, 2007
Greetings from the S'COOL Team! Welcome to Issue #16 of the S'COOL E-note.
This month's E-note includes:
- S'COOL website "Feature of the Month"
- New item on the report form
- Cloud Photo of the Month
- Wondering why you have not received matching emails lately?
- Intensive Observation Period (IOP) June 17-24
- S'COOL website "Feature of the Month"
The "Feature of the Month" last month offered some help on determining the height of clouds. This month we want to help you decide what cloud type you are observing. The Observing Cloud Type page has been updated and includes resources and tips for identifying and classifying clouds.
- New item on the report form
If you have recently entered an observation into the on-line report form, you may have noticed that there is a new item in the current surface cover section. We just need to know if it was raining or snowing during your observation. You may want to print a new paper version so this new item is not overlooked.
- Cloud Photo of the Month
The photo we selected for the Cloud Photo Of the Month for April was sent in by San José school in Barranquilla, Colombia. Don't forget your camera while vacationing this summer. Your photo could be the feature next month. Remember, we want the details!!
- Wondering why you have not received matching emails lately?
On 5/3/07 processing of S'COOL satellite data was stopped so that the data center could go back and reprocess the satellite data from 12/21/06 forward. At that time we also stopped sending our automated email notifications so that schools wouldn't receive duplicate notifications for matches. Reprocessing should end shortly, at which time we will turn on our automated email notifications. The first few emails may contain more matches than usual, as the data center will be processing 3-4 days worth of data for 5/4/07 to the present.
- Intensive Observation Period (IOP) June 17-24
To coordinate with the summer solstice, which signals the beginning of summer for those in the northern hemisphere and winter for those in the southern hemisphere, we have selected next week June 17-24 for the next IOP. During this time we encourage everyone to make extra effort to observe so that we can get a larger than usual number of observations for analysis.
