S'COOL E-note July, 2007

Greetings from the S'COOL Team! Welcome to Issue #17 of the S'COOL E-note.

This month's E-note includes:

  1. S'COOL website "Feature of the Month"
  2. Lesson Plan Feature
  3. Cloud Photo of the Month
  4. Tutorials
  1. S'COOL website "Feature of the Month"

Last month we featured the Observing Cloud Type page. Did it help? The month before we featured Observing Cloud Height. The featured page this month is Observing Cloud Visual Opacity. This page contains photographs of various clouds that may help you determine if a cloud is transparent, translucent, or opaque. Thank you to our summer interns for your help with the updates to this page.

  2. Lesson Plan Feature

Have you had a chance to introduce your students to any of the lessons on the S'COOL website? We have decided to feature a lesson each month to help you discover some of these great pertinent lessons. This month the featured lesson is Visual Opacity.

  3. Cloud Photo of the Month

The photo we selected for the Cloud Photo Of the Month for June was sent in by Colegio Gregorio José Ramírez Castro school in Alajuela, Costa Rica. Don't forget your camera while vacationing this summer. Your photo could be the feature next month. Remember, we want the details!! Photographs without a caption will not be considered.

  4. Tutorials

Check out the new additions to the S'COOL Tutorials page: "Exploring CALIPSO Lidar Profiles" and "Exploring CloudSat Radar Profiles". The CloudSat and CALIPSO satellites were launched on 28 April 2006 and joined three satellites already in orbit (Aqua, PARASOL, and Aura) to study clouds and atmospheric aerosols. The new tutorials are designed to help you use these exciting new data sources in your classroom. Let us know what you think!
