During the GERB special scanning, a CERES instrument on Terra (FM2) is adjusting its head orientation so that the RAZ matches the GERB viewing geometry. During the winter 2008 campaign, short scan nadir elevation profile is used. It allows to collect twice as many data as the normal elevation scan profile. However, due to ram direction restrictions, only in the Northern hemisphere CERES/GERB geometries will be matched. Since GERB-1 and GERB-2 geolocations are further apart this year, the campaign targets each instrument in a succession. GERB-2, located at 9.2E, is the target from December 8 through 18. GERB-1, located at 0.2W, becomes the target on December 19 until the end of the campaign on December 28, 2008.
Note: The CERES Terra instruments, FM1 and FM2, were launched on
December 19,1999, and designated as the "AM" instruments.
Note: The CERES AQUA instruments, FM3 and FM4, were launched on
May 4, 2002, and designated as the "PM" instruments.
