During the Fall of 2008 GERB ground validation campaign to be carried out at the Alacante Anchor Station, CERES instruments on Aqua and Terra will provide additional radiance measurements to support validation efforts. CERES instruments will operate in the PAPS mode (Programmable Azimuth Plane Scanning) in which an instrument is positioned at the first azimuth position 5 minutes prior to the beginning of the PAPS sequence. The CERES azimuth position is then updated every other scan (~ every 13 seconds) as the spacecraft transcends its orbit in the vicinity of the Alacar Anchor Station. After the PAPS sequence, the instrument is returned to the regular Rotating Azimuth mode (RAPS.) The area of the Anchor Station is of about the GERB pixel size (50 by 50 km) and is reasonably homogeneous. Ground measurements will be taken by sunphotometer, GPS precipitable water content, radiosounding ascents (exactly on the spot at CERES overpassing times are provided by the Spanish Institute for Meteorology), meteorological measurements at 2m and 15m., 4 radiation components at 2m, and mobile stations to characterize such a large area. Besides, an air-quality and tropospheric ozone mobile station from the high value network of the General Direction of Environmental Quality of the Regional Government of Valencia will provide measurements of atmospheric contaminants (SO2, NO2, CO, NO, NOx,), particles (<1mm, <2.5mm, <10mm) and tropospheric ozone.
