CERES
true ALONG-TRACK
implementation

The original CERES along-track realization did not take into account the Earth rotation, and the relative azimuth angle was kept constant at 90 degrees. As a consequence of that there was a several footprints distance between a forward and backward sweep even for relatively small (<60 degrees) viewing zenith angles.

A true along-track (trueAT) scan implementation attempts to rectify the original problem by introducing a variable trueAT angle as a function of a satellite groundtrack latitude. It seeks to minimize the width of an AT swath within viewing zenith angles of less than 60 degrees. This implementation is carried out with the direct collaboration of Michel Viollier.

Note: The CERES Terra instruments, FM1 and FM2, were launched on 19 December, 1999.
These are designated as the "AM" instruments.
Note: The CERES AQUA instruments, FM3 and FM4, were launched on 4 May, 2002.
These are designated as the "PM" instruments.
