Active Pixel Sensors

The Active Pixel Sensor(APS) focal plane array developed at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory will function as GIFTS visible image detector to identify clouds as well as enable visible registration of infrared images. Potentially a successor to conventional charged-coupled device technology in use today, the APS is an ultra low power, miniaturized single chip integrated digital imager. Among its features are these user configurable parameters:: exposure time, speed of operation, gain and output data formats.
