Convolution of Imager Cloud Properties with CERES Footprint Point Spread Function

Subsystem 4.4

Overview

For each CERES fov, the CERES point spread function (Figure 5) is used to weight the individual cloud imager footprint data to provide cloud properties matched in space and time to the CERES flux measurements. Because cloud radiative properties are non linearly related to cloud optical depth, a frequency distribution of cloud optical depth is kept for each cloud height category in the CERES field of view. Additional information on cloud property data structures can be found in ATBD 0 and ATBD 4.0.
